Antigua and Barbuda digital nomad visa 2026: requirements, tax & how to apply
The Nomad Digital Residence lets you base yourself in the Caribbean on foreign income, with no local income tax, but it does not make you a tax resident or lead to residency.

Antigua and Barbuda has a genuine digital nomad visa, the Nomad Digital Residence (NDR). You must declare at least US$50,000 in annual income for each of the two years, earned from work you can perform remotely from abroad. It is valid for up to two years, admits family, and Antigua levies no personal income tax on that foreign income.
Overview
Antigua and Barbuda does have a purpose-built digital nomad visa: the Nomad Digital Residence (NDR), launched in 2020 and administered by the Antigua and Barbuda government. It is a special-residence authorisation for people whose work can be done remotely and who want a Caribbean base with modern telecommunications, rather than a route to permanent residency or citizenship.
The NDR is a two-year permit, not an immigration category that builds toward settlement. It does not lead to permanent residency or a passport, and it does not permit you to take up local employment. If your goal is to settle long term, Antigua's separate Permanent Residency Programme or its Citizenship by Investment programme are the correct vehicles instead.
Who it's for
The programme targets, in the government's words, "persons whose work can be done remotely" who want to do so from a safe Caribbean country with sound telecommunications. Employees of foreign companies, self-employed freelancers and business owners all qualify, provided the income comes from outside Antigua and Barbuda. You may not work for a local employer or serve local clients while on the visa.
- Remote employees on contract with a company based outside Antigua and Barbuda.
- Freelancers and independent contractors serving foreign clients.
- Business owners and entrepreneurs whose income is generated abroad.
- You must hold medical insurance covering your stay in Antigua and Barbuda.
- You may not take up local employment or provide services to local clients on this visa.
Income requirement
The core financial test is a declared expected income of no less than US$50,000 per year (or the equivalent in another currency) for each of the two years of the visa. Applicants certify this in the application and back it with employment or self-employment evidence and supporting financial documents. The US$50,000 figure is stated directly in the official Nomad Digital Residence programme materials.
Tax treatment: does it make you tax-resident?
The Nomad Digital Residence does not make you a tax resident of Antigua and Barbuda, and NDR holders are not permitted to work locally. Just as importantly, Antigua and Barbuda levies no personal income tax at all - it abolished personal income tax in 2016. There is no local tax on salary, dividends, capital gains or your foreign remote income, so there is no special "nomad rate" because none is needed.
That is a tax non-event locally, but it is not the whole picture. The NDR does not, by itself, break tax residency in your home country or hand you a tax-residency certificate you can use elsewhere. Where you remain taxable is decided by your home country's rules and by how much time and economic connection you keep there. Treat the zero-tax headline as a local fact, not a solution to your overall tax position.
For how presence, certificates and Antigua's no-income-tax regime actually interact if you want to become resident there, see our guide to tax residency in Antigua and Barbuda.
Duration & renewal
The NDR is granted for up to two years. It is not a rolling permit with a built-in renewal cycle: once the two-year authorisation ends, you are expected to leave or move to a different immigration route. If you want to stay in Antigua and Barbuda beyond the two years, plan the transition to the Permanent Residency Programme or another category well before the visa expires rather than assuming a simple extension.
Family
Unlike single-applicant nomad visas elsewhere, the NDR admits your immediate family. Spouses and dependent children can be included on the application, and the fee tiers are built around this (single, couple, family). You must provide proof of relationship for each dependent and show you can financially support them for the duration of the stay.
How to apply
- Confirm you meet the profile (work you can perform remotely for foreign income) and the US$50,000-per-year declaration, and decide who you are bringing.
- Gather documents: valid passport and a copy of the biographical page, passport-style photos, medical insurance covering the stay, a police clearance certificate (required for applicants over 16), and proof of employment or self-employment.
- For each dependent, add proof of relationship (marriage and birth certificates) and evidence you can support them.
- Complete the official Nomad Digital Residence application and pay the non-refundable fee for your tier (single, couple or family) by card.
- Submit the application and fee receipt through the official government channel and await the emailed approval decision.
- On approval and arrival, complete any in-country formalities and set up local logistics (banking, accommodation, connectivity) for your stay.

How Expectat helps you get there
You do not need another recycled checklist. You need to know whether Antigua's two-year window actually fits your plans, whether your income is cleanly foreign-source, and what the zero-local-tax headline really means for the tax you still owe at home before you commit fees and paperwork.
- We map your situation and numbers: whether your US$50,000 is comfortably documented as foreign income, how the two-year cap fits your timeline, and whether a residency or citizenship route would serve you better.
- We pressure-test the tax side: that Antigua's no-income-tax regime and non-resident NDR status do not lull you into a home-country residency trap, and what it would take to actually shift your tax residency if that is the goal.
- We execute on the ground with vetted local partners who confirm the live application channel, prepare and legalise documents, and handle the family filing end to end.

Frequently asked questions
Does Antigua and Barbuda actually have a digital nomad visa?
Yes. The Nomad Digital Residence (NDR) is a dedicated remote-worker visa launched by the Antigua and Barbuda government in 2020. It is a genuine two-year category for people who earn foreign income and can work remotely, not a repurposed tourist permit.
How much income do I need for the Antigua nomad visa?
You must declare an expected income of no less than US$50,000 per year for each of the two years of the visa, from work you perform remotely for foreign income. You support the declaration with employment or self-employment evidence and financial documents.
Will I pay tax in Antigua and Barbuda on the visa?
No. NDR holders are not tax residents and cannot work locally, and Antigua and Barbuda has had no personal income tax since 2016. Your foreign income is not taxed locally. This does not by itself end your tax obligations in your home country, which you should confirm with an adviser.
Can I bring my spouse and children?
Yes. The NDR admits immediate family. Spouses and dependent children can be included, with fee tiers for a single applicant, a couple and a family of three or more. You provide proof of relationship and show you can support any dependents.
How long can I stay, and does it lead to residency?
The visa is valid for up to two years and does not renew in the ordinary sense. It does not lead to permanent residency or citizenship; to stay longer you must move to another route such as the Permanent Residency Programme, planned before the visa expires.
