Frequently asked questions
What Expectat is, how we work, and what to expect — the questions we hear most.
What is Expectat?
Expectat is a hands-on guide to borderless living — helping nomads, founders and investors plan and execute a move for their life and their capital: tax residency, second citizenship, offshore structuring and Bitcoin sovereignty. It's part in-depth content, part one-to-one strategy.
Is Expectat a law firm or tax adviser?
No. Expectat is strategy and guidance, not regulated advice. Nothing here is legal, tax or financial advice, and using the site creates no advisory relationship. For filings and formal advice I bring in vetted specialists — lawyers, tax advisors and bankers — in the relevant country. See our disclaimer.
How do you actually work with clients?
In three steps: we find your direction in a focused session, build your strategy as a sequenced plan, and execute it with support — with introductions to the specialists who handle the regulated work. See how we work.
Is moving your residency and capital abroad legal?
Yes — done properly, relocating your tax residency, holding a second citizenship and structuring your company and capital across jurisdictions is entirely legal and common. The point is to do it deliberately, with the right filings and clean exits — to be compliant, not to hide.
How much does it cost?
The strategy session carries a fee, credited toward your plan if we proceed. Anything beyond that is scoped to your situation. Book a call and we'll be clear on cost before anything begins.
Which countries do you cover?
Effectively any. The site has in-depth guides for 50+ countries across residency, citizenship by descent, citizenship by investment, golden visas and passports — and the strategy work is tailored to wherever fits your goals, not a fixed list.
Do I have to move full-time?
Often not. Many residency and golden-visa programmes have low or no minimum-stay, and a plan can be built around two or three bases. What's right depends on your tax exposure and goals — part of what we map together.
Can you help me get a second passport?
We can plan the route — by descent if you have the ancestry, by investment, or through naturalisation after residency — and coordinate the specialists who file it. First check whether your country allows dual citizenship.
I'm a US citizen — is it different for me?
Yes. The US taxes citizens on worldwide income for life, so relocation is about structure and optionality rather than simply leaving. There are real, legal levers — the foreign earned income exclusion, Puerto Rico's Act 60, and, as a last resort, expatriation — and we plan around them honestly.
Who writes the content?
Aharon Acosta, PhD (Management Science, ESADE / Ramon Llull), founder of Expectat, who rebuilt his own business abroad. Every guide is written from experience and cites official sources.
Do you sell my data?
No. We use a small set of trusted providers for the newsletter and bookings, and we don't sell your data. See the privacy policy.
How do I get started?
Read a few guides to see how we think, then apply for a strategy call. Not ready? The FAQ and contact page are here for questions.
