Public schools and homeschooling

Children of legal residents can attend Montenegrin public schools free of charge; primary education is compulsory and instruction is in Montenegrin, so younger children adapt faster than older teens. Enrolment typically requires the child's residence permit, a translated birth certificate and a health certificate. Full home education is not freely available: parents must register the child at a school and the child sits annual exams, so most expat families choose between public and international schools.
