Registered agent

A licensed local representative that an offshore or foreign company must appoint to receive official correspondence and keep its statutory filings in order.

Most offshore and many onshore jurisdictions require every company to maintain a registered agent (and a registered office address) in the country of incorporation. The agent is the company's official point of contact for the registry, handles annual filings, and holds records such as the register of directors and beneficial owners.

Why it matters

The registered agent is a recurring, mandatory cost of keeping a foreign company alive and compliant — and losing one can put the company in bad standing or lead to it being struck off.
