Foreign Earned Income Exclusion
A US provision letting qualifying taxpayers abroad exclude a capped amount of earned income from US tax.
The FEIE lets Americans living abroad exclude a capped amount of foreign earned income from US federal tax each year, provided they meet a residence or physical-presence test.
Why it matters
It's the main tool that makes citizenship-based taxation bearable for US expats, though it doesn't cover investment income and doesn't remove the filing requirement.
